I’ve just received the official email from Microsoft regarding the new Bing (But Its Not Google) Search Engine. (It appears they have sent this to everyone registered as a web master with their search services)
It quotes:
Bing is a new world of search services. It provides users with a powerful way to cut through the clutter and make more informed decisions. Among its new features:
Instant Answers: finds specific answers to informational queries, e.g. “What is 55F in Celsius” offers rich media and structured data and a general search term like “weather” yields a 5-day forecast for your location. Preview: enables searchers to find out more information about a site by previewing individual results on the results page to reduce back-and-forth searching. Best Match: delivers results with deep links and highly relevant information to help searchers to get the right information faster.
I’ve already seen the Live previews in action, especially on the video content. This is a good move, although I’ve also read articles where its open to abuse and exploitation of offensive content (i.e. Pornography)
I’ve still seen little in the way of a radical change of results for any of the search terms we have been optimising our sites for, but I guess time will tell.
Is it time for Google to start quaking?
